What is counselling?

Counselling is a way to work through and understand difficult things that may be going on in your life. These difficult things may involve work and relationship worries, feelings of helplessness, anxiety or boredom.

Counselling can be helpful because it is a different way of talking to someone. Infact, it is a unique experience in which you are listened to in a non-judgemental and supportive way. A counselling conversation may feel very different to talking to friends or family. It may be the first time you have really felt ‘heard’ or listened to.

Counselling can help you to reflect on your situation and to uncover what it is that you want. The process can be challenging because you may talk about painful feelings and it can be frustrating if there seems to be no quick solution.  However, the process can also be hopeful as you learn how to express yourself and to think about how to improve your situation and to take action.
